Thompson Statement on Florida School Shooting

Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement in regards to the tragic shooting yesterday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida:

“Today, our thoughts and prayers are with the students, faculty, staff, families, and friends who were affected by the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida yesterday. Mass shootings have become all too common, as this tragic event marks our eighteenth school shooting this year. We cannot continue down this path. Our children deserve better. Americans deserve better. Our constituents look to Congress for more than just thoughts and prayers. I'm ready to take action to prevent such senseless gun violence. The question is: When will the Republicans who control the House join me?”
